Weight = π × (OD² - ID²) / 4 × Length × Density
Where:
- OD = Outer Diameter
- ID = Inner Diameter (OD - 2×Wall)
- Length = pipe length
- Density = material density

- Schedule 40: Standard wall thickness
- Schedule 80: Extra strong (thicker wall)
- Schedule 10: Light wall (less weight)
- Higher schedule = thicker wall = heavier pipe

How do you calculate pipe weight?
Pipe weight is calculated using the formula: Weight = π × (OD² - ID²) / 4 × Length × Density. First calculate the cross-sectional area of the pipe wall (annulus), then multiply by length and material density.
How much does steel pipe weigh per foot?

What is the weight of PVC pipe?
PVC pipe is much lighter than steel. For Schedule 40 PVC: 1/2" weighs about 0.16 lb/ft, 2" weighs about 0.78 lb/ft, 4" weighs about 2.0 lb/ft. PVC density is about 1/5 that of steel.
How much does a 20-foot pipe weigh?
Multiply the weight per foot by 20. For example, a 20-foot length of 2" Schedule 40 steel pipe weighs approximately 73 lbs (3.65 lb/ft × 20 ft = 73 lbs).
What is the difference between Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 pipe weight?
